For the next few months we'll be sharing advice on how to cut down waste, reuse and recycle, and avoid dirty chemicals in our bodies, waterways and ecosystems, through homemade products and green-living tips. Starting with a recipe for an eco-friendly dishwashing liquid. Commercial dishwashing detergents are made with synthetic chemicals that can make their way into our food and waterways. This recipe instead uses completely biodegradable edible ingredients.
Lemon Dishwashing Liquid Recipe:
Blend 3 chopped lemons (with skins and seeds) in a blender until a chunky liquid is formed. Add 200g fine salt, 150ml white vinegar and ½ L water and blend until smooth. Place in a large pot and boil for 15 minutes. Conserve in a jar or bottle. Use half a cup for a sink of water. To use with gloves.
This product will not foam like a commercial dishwashing liquid, but has excellent cleaning properties thanks to the combination of mother nature’s natural cleaners.
