A New York Press Conference for the Salone del Gusto

This morning, New York's Plaza Hotel hosted the third in a series ofpress conferences to promote the Salone del Gusto. Slow Food Vice-President Silvio Barbero and the director of the Promotions Office, Roberto Burdese, presented the Salone del Gusto to acrowd of 50 journalists in the Plaza's Oak Room. Patrick Martins, director of Slow Food USA, was on hand to introduce the speakers and discuss the American presence at the upcoming Salone.
Biodiversity and Taste Education will be the central themes of this year's Salone del Gusto this year, and Barbero spoke passionately about Slow Food's mission to preserve the biodiversity and variety of the world's food supply and to teach consumers how to use their senses and to appreciate food. Barbero also summarized Slow Food's goal of inspiring 'active gourmets', who contribute to the conservation of the world's valuable gastronomic heritage.
The Salone del Gusto 2002 will not simply be a chance to lose yourself in the pleasures of food, but also learn more about endangered foods around the world, and about the heritage of thousands of regional foods.
At the aperitif following the conference, journalists tasted Dry JackCheese from the American Ark alongside an artisan Escarun from thePiedmontese Occelli dairy, and classic Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. In glasses, Brooklyn Brewery's Monster Ale and Piedmontesespumantes from two famous vineyards, Ca' del Bosco and Contratto.Slow Food will move to Los Angeles for a fourth Press Conference next week (2:30 pm on July 2nd.) at Alto Palato restaurant.(Contact the Slow Food USA offices at 212 965 5640 for moreinformation on next week's conference).
