Slow Fish
With fishing, just as with agriculture, Slow Food strongly believes that every individual can contribute in his or her own small way to changing the mechanisms of a globalized food system based on the intensive exploitation of resources.
The international Slow Fish campaign promotes artisanal fishing and responsible fish consumption, including widening our choices beyond the the most popular - and often overfished - species to find local options that allow for a better management of the sea’s resources, starting from the local level.
The multilingual campaign website provides an overview of existing research and information on sustainable fish choice and gives visibility to Slow Food projects: the 23 Slow Food Presidia with Terra Madre fishing communities; educational activities carried out by convivia and events; the Which Fish? recipe collection of sustainable fish dishes from our communities; and events, culminating in our biennial international gathering of small-scale fishers "Slow Fish" held in Italy.
